how to make bunting

Who doesn’t love a string of bunting? It’s so joyful and brings back memories of sunny days, garden parties, fetes and carnivals. It’s so easy to make and the fun is in mixing and matching your fabric or card. Why not use vintage fabrics? There are some lovely old dresses and blouses in charity shops just waiting to be upcycled!

This make was inspired by our Pictures of You vignette Openings where our JAMS artists mirror the sensitivity, trust and care employed by the visiting artist and reciprocated by the other to meet and achieve a meaningful interaction. Bunting to us is reminiscent of good times spent together and our joyful Garden Performances.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• Pinking shears
• Fabric glue or stapler
• Long length of Ribbon or string
• Template (download here)

INSTRUCTIONS

Download the bunting template.

Place the bunting template onto your fabric or card and draw around it with a pencil.

Cut it out using pinking shears as this stops the fabric from fraying.

Repeat to make as many fabric or card triangles as you’d like on your bunting, anything over 10 is a good number.

Fold over the top part of each triangle of fabric or card over your length of ribbon and attach firmly using fabric glue or staples.

Be sure to space your fabric or card triangles evenly along the ribbon and ensure they’re not too far apart.
