make a glitter ball mobile

This glitter ball mobile is made from small squares of foil that glint and sparkle when the sun catches it. It looks so pretty hanging from a tree or a washing line or you could even hang it in a gazebo. It brings a touch of nostalgia to any garden, evoking memories of ballrooms and Saturday night dances.

This make was inspired by our Pictures of You vignette Dance the Night Away taking us back to the era of the dance halls, to village halls where young gals and boys dressed in their finest and gathered to practice the latest dance routines by the light of the mirror ball.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• A stick to hang the mobile on
• 80cm of garden wire
• Scissors
• 60 Foil squares 2cm x 2cm (we can supply these, get in touch with Clare)
• Nylon or strong thread
• Glue
• Stickly felt or strong tape

INSTRUCTIONS

Bend the garden wire into a circle making sure you have an overlap of 5cm. Join the overlap sections of the wire together to form the circle by wrapping them with strong tape or sticky felt.

Tie 5 lengths of thread or nylon to the top and bottom of the circle frame, ensuring you space them equally inside the frame.

Lay the circle frame down and place a silver foil square underneath the first thread, add a dab of glue to the foil, and then stick another square of foil on top of it and the thread to make a foil ‘sandwich’.

Continue along each length of thread adding more squares of foil evenly spaced.

Take a stick and using strong thread or nylon attach the wire circle to the stick and then it’s ready to hang in the garden.
